Weekly Mental Health Q&A

February 6, 2006

“My boyfriend’s family recently revealed to him that he was born intersex. He has been trying to learn as much as possible about being intersex, and has looked into support networks. But I still think it would be helpful for him to talk about his feelings and concerns with someone in the University community. Could SCRS provide him with support in dealing with this new information about himself?”

WHAT SCRS CAN DO:

  • Provide him with a safe and confidential space in which to discuss his concerns
  • Offer to meet with you as a couple to discuss how this realization has affected your relationship, if necessary
  • Connect you with any community resources that may be of help

DISCLAIMER: None of the vignettes are based on actual University of Chicago students or specific incidents. The vignettes suggest possible scenarios but do not represent any particular University students. The SCRS maintains a strict confidentiality policy that is outlined our Policies section.
