Weekly Mental Health Q&A

January 16, 2006

“I’m a grad student, and I just found out that my parents are getting divorced. I’m not terribly surprised, since my parents have always had a rough marriage. But I am surprised at how upset it has made me. I always thought that as an adult, I’d be able to handle it if they ever got divorced. But I’m actually quite shaken up. Could someone at SCRS help me get through this?

WHAT SCRS CAN DO:

  • Help you understand that divorce is difficult for children of any age
  • Help you come to terms with your family as it continues to change and take on a different form

DISCLAIMER: None of the vignettes are based on actual University of Chicago students or specific incidents. The vignettes suggest possible scenarios but do not represent any particular University students. The SCRS maintains a strict confidentiality policy that is outlined our Policies section.
