Weekly Mental Health Q&A

"I've been smoking pot for many years now, and I feel as though it has helped me deal with stress in my life. When I get stressed out about things that I have to do, like write a paper, look for a summer job, or pay bills, I smoke up, and the stress doesn’t bother me as much. But then in the long run, nothing gets done. I miss deadlines, I wait too long to apply for jobs, and I haven’t paid my bills. Lately, things have gotten pretty chaotic, and I’m starting to notice that this pattern of ignoring stress by smoking isn’t working very well. Could someone at SCRS can help me figure out better ways to manage my drug-use and deal with stress?"

WHAT SCRS CAN DO:

  • help you deal with the anxiety associated with responsibilities rather than avoiding it
  • help you recognize the triggers for your drug use and think about alternative responses
