“All my life I was told that one day
I would go to college, and then go on to study medicine. Both my parents
are doctors, and it has always been a given that I would become a doctor
as well. But now that I'm in college, and have been exposed to so many
other disciplines, I'm realizing that I want to go into theater instead.
I recently told my parents, and they flipped out. They told me that I'd
never be able to make a living as an actor, and that I was being absurd.
But when I'm in the theater, I feel as though suddenly everything makes sense.
I want to switch my major, but I'm really worried that my parents will stop paying for my education. Can SCRS help me?”
WHAT SCRS CAN DO:
- help you think through what it is that you really want and the sacrifices this may entail
- help you think strategically about what you can reasonably expect in terms of parental support
