“My family is experiencing financial problems,
and I've had to take a job in addition to school. The combination of my job
and classes leaves me hardly any time to hang out with friends. The money I
earn goes directly to my family, so even when I do have a free evening, I can't
afford to go out. My friends come from pretty privileged backgrounds, and I don't
think they understand my predicament. I feel like I need to talk with them about it,
but I don't want them to think less of me, or feel bad for me. Mostly, I don't want
to draw attention to how different our lives are. Is there anyone at SCRS who can
help me deal with this situation?”
WHAT SCRS CAN DO:
- help you deal with the limitations this situation places on your freedom and ability to interact with friends
- help you think about ways to discuss your situation with your friends in a matter-of-fact way so they understand the limitations on your time and money
