Weekly Mental Health Q&A

November 28, 2005

Before I came to college, my high school sweetheart and I got engaged. We’d been together for four years, and we were both positive that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. But now that I’m at college, it’s as though a whole new world has opened up to me. There’s so much that I want to explore, and I feel that maybe this isn’t the best time to settle down. I think I may want to postpone the engagement, or even call it off altogether. But I know it will absolutely crush my fiancée. Can I talk through all of my feelings and fears with someone at SCRS?

WHAT SCRS CAN DO:

  • Help you to thoroughly consider all of your feelings, and all of your options so that you feel more confident with whatever decision you make
  • Offer to meet with you and your fiancée together to re-evaluate your relationship in this new context
