Weekly Mental Health Q&A

Monday, Dec. 27th

"During the summer before I came to college, I had sex for the first time, and didn't use protection. I recently found out that I am HIV-positive. In general, I don't know whether or not to tell people about my HIV-status, and it's causing me a lot of stress. I need support in order to figure out how to make the right decisions, and have the strength to stick by them. Can someone at SCRS help me with this, and help me to find a support group?"

WHAT SCRS CAN DO:

  • provide a safe space in which you can talk about your feelings and concerns about living with HIV
  • help connect you to someone at the Student Care Center who can provide you with additional information about HIV
  • help you find support groups at the university or in the community that will connect you with other people who are HIV-positive

DISCLAIMER: None of the vignettes are based on actual University of Chicago students or specific incidents. The vignettes suggest possible scenarios but do not represent any particular University students. The SCRS maintains a strict confidentiality policy that is outlined our Policies section.
