Weekly Mental Health Q&A

"Over the summer, my roommate's brother was killed in a car accident. His death has had a tremendous effect on her, and her family. Although it's understandable that she is depressed, I am starting to worry about her. She's been back at school for nearly two months now, and she only seems to be sinking deeper into depression. I know that she doesn't let her parents know how depressed she is, and I think she feels as though she doesn't have anyone she can talk to. Should I tell her to come to SCRS?"

WHAT SCRS CAN DO:

  • help your roommate learn more about the grieving process
  • help her find ways to function in school while still in mourning
  • provide her with information about additional resources in the Chicago area, including support groups, and religious outreach, if desired.
