Weekly Mental Health Q&A

Monday, Nov. 15th

"I'm having a hard time adjusting to life at college because I am from a very different cultural background than most students at the U of C. I was thinking of coming to SCRS, but I'm worried that no one will know how to help me unless they understand my culture, and religious beliefs. Furthermore, English is not my first language, so I don't know if I'll be able to communicate very well. Is it possible that SCRS could be helpful to me?"

WHAT SCRS CAN DO:

  • encourage you to share your cultural and religious background with us to help us better understand your concerns
  • help you to articulate your concerns
  • help you to find other possible sources of support, such as religious or ethnic student groups, or religious figures on campus or in the community

DISCLAIMER: None of the vignettes are based on actual University of Chicago students or specific incidents. The vignettes suggest possible scenarios but do not represent any particular University students. The SCRS maintains a strict confidentiality policy that is outlined our Policies section.
