“My roommate has recently started experimenting with drugs. At first, it didn’t seem like a big deal, but now it is all he wants to do. He won’t hang out with his friends anymore unless they’re getting high. It seems like he is still getting his work done, and he hasn’t been unhappy, so I don’t know how to talk to him about this. I want to make sure he’s okay and that this isn’t becoming a problem, but I also don’t want to create an awkward situation and make him uncomfortable living with me.”
HOW CAN SCRS HELP?:
- Suggest language that might allow you to speak to your friend in a constructive and concerned way
- Identify if it makes sense to possibly alert concerned adults
- Help you set appropriate boundaries for yourself so that your roommates problems do not interfere with your own life and sense of well being
