Dissertation Support Group
SCS offers Dissertation Support Groups for advanced graduate students who have successfully defended their dissertation proposals and are in the process of researching and writing their theses in preparation for defending their projects as a final step toward completing their doctoral degrees.
The Dissertation Support Groups meet for 80 minutes weekly over 1–3 academic quarters. They are multidisciplinary groups of 4–8 members, and are led by an SCS clinician who is familiar with group support and with the dissertation creation process. In the group sessions participants report their problems and progress, share strategies, and learn new methods of managing time and goals, all to the end of moving forward in the completion of their respective projects. This is a process that many graduate students have found helpful. For more information, please contact Tamara Claman, PsyD, at tclaman@uhs.bsd.uchicago.edu.
