Dealing with Social Anxiety

SCS offers students (both graduate and undergraduate) the opportunity to address problems with social anxiety in a group format. This group meets for 90 minutes once a week and students can join at any time during the academic year. Students who participate in this group learn social communication skills and have the opportunity to work on overcoming their anxiety in social situations they are particularly concerned about. Students are taught to set up a hierarchy of situations that are anxiety producing for them and to gradually expose themselves to these experiences starting with the least anxiety producing situation and moving toward the most anxiety producing situation. Role plays are done in the sessions to help students prepare for facing these situations and for practicing communication skills.
